PARTICIPATE IN THE
SOUTH PLATTE COMPACT CANAL PROJECT TODAY!

2022 Landowner 4x6 Mailer - Map-3.jpeg

The State of Nebraska, by and through the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, is seeking the participation of landowners in the region depicted above for the development of a canal authorized under the South Platte River Compact of 1923.

Article VI of the Compact anticipates the construction of a canal with its headworks near the town of Ovid, Colorado. The canal will divert water from the South Platte River to the Nebraska state line pursuant to Nebraska’s Compact allocation for uses in Nebraska.

In April 2022, the Nebraska Legislature directed the Department to investigate various aspects of this project and provided funding to obtain options to acquire interests in land through which the canal might run.

Final design and location will depend on various factors.  However, if you own land in the area shown and would like to learn more about the possibility of working with the Department, please submit your information below.

Thanks for submitting!

Those electing to participate will be contacted directly by a Nebraska representative within 72 hours. For general information about the project and the Compact, or to direct comments and concerns about the project, please visit the Department’s website.
